PRLN: Regulatory Executives from Five African Nations Review Kenya’s Energy Sector
A delegation of energy regulators from five African countries came together in Kenya last week. The regulator CEOs conducted a comprehensive peer review of Kenya’s energy sector as part of a capacity-building initiative known as the Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN).
The regulator CEOs also spent a site visit at Scatec, a leading control and monitoring center for renewable energy companies. The experience gave the regulators an opportunity to engage with innovative technologies and to explore how those could be adapted to their environment.
The main objectives of the PRLN are to enhance leadership and management capability among African Electricity Regulators and to enhance overall investment and development outcomes through improved performance of the continent’s electricity infrastructure industry.
For a third time, the Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN) brought African electricity regulators together to exchange common challenges and best practice solutions.
Eswatini is building capacity for its energy sector transformation. Earlier this month, management staff from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy of Eswatini (MNRE) and the country’s Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) came together for a three-day training on energy regulation and market development.
Five African electricity regulation authorities came together in Namibia last week for the second meeting of the Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN). Namibia’s Electricity Control Board (ECB) hosted regulator CEOs from Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda to exchange on best practices and lessons learnt in energy regulation.
The Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN) workshop was hosted by Uganda’s Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA). The PRLN is an initiative delivered by the University of Cape Town’s Power Futures Lab in partnership with the European program.
